Execution from the GUI

To start the FileMasker GUI:

      On Windows:
For 64 bit Java environments run bin/filemasker64.exe
For 32 bit Java environments run bin/filemasker.exe

     On Linux/Unix:
           Run the script bin/filemasker

To execute the current masking project using the GUI, first make sure that all parameters such as input file configuration and output location are specified.

This is done from the Execution tab:

The Input and Output parameters shown above are mostly self-explanatory.

For details on file format and compression settings please refer to File Formats.

The Adjust file extension as needed Output setting is valid only when writing output files to a specified directory. It indicates whether FileMasker should adjust the output file name extension according to whether it is compressed or not. Generally this would happen when the actual input and output compression settings are different. E.g. If the input file was uncompressed ("mydata.csv") and the user chose GZIP compression for the output file with this setting enabled then the output file name would have ".gz" appended if it did not already have this file extension ("mydata.csv.gz").

Preview Run

It is recommended that you perform a Preview Run as you are creating a masking project to ensure that the masks you are configuring are performing as you would expect.

Click on the 'Preview Run' button or on the corresponding toolbar button.

This will perform the masks and show the Before/After Comparison display:

Note that the word 'Preview' in the After column heading is shown. This confirms that the masked results are only a preview and have not been written.

Masking Run

To perform a masking run to write the masked results to a file, click on the 'Run...' button or on the corresponding toolbar button.

This will perform the masks and show the Before/After Comparison display:

Note that the the actual file path where the masked output was written is shown in the After column heading.
